Warning issued over Brazilian butt lifts being 'offered in flat or hotel room' (1)

A warning has been issued around Brazilian butt lifts (BBL) allegedly being offered in a Trafford 'apartment or hotel room'.

Council bosses are urging members of the public to stay vigilant after receiving information about 'disreputable operators' working at an unconfirmed location in the borough.

BBLs are procedures involving silicone implants or fat, which is used to enlarge or lift buttocks.

But the procedure carries severe risks - with BBL surgery having the highest death rate of all cosmetic procedures.

According to the NHS, fat injected into the buttocks can lead to a pulmonary embolism - a blockage in a blood vessel in the lungs - which can fatal. Other serious side effects include cellulitis.

A Trafford Council spokesperson said: "We are urging residents to beware of Brazilian butt lifts (BBL) being offered by disreputable operators.

"This warning follows intelligence that an operator is currently offering appointments at an unconfirmed location in Trafford, likely to be a private apartment or hotel room.

"Please resist booking such treatments - they can have dangerous or even fatal consequences."

The NHS fired a warning last December having seen clinics offering huge discounts and all-inclusive packages to travel for Brazilian butt lifts.

It says doctors in the NHS frequently have to treat patients who have endured botched BBLs.

Professor Sir Stephen Powis, NHS National Medical Director, said at the time: "BBLs have the highest death rate of all such treatments, and all to often it is left to the NHS to repair the damage and taxpayers to foot the bill.

"The NHS will always be there for those who need it, but it should not be left to deal with the consequences of botched BBLs."

Anyone with information about illegal BBL surgery in Greater Manchester is asked to email environmental.health@trafford.gov.uk
